Thank you for your interest in hosting our Youth Volunteers as they serve your organization! Agencies have the opportunity to work with us during the school year in several different ways...
Most Saturdays throughout the year, YVCKC sponsors multiple community service projects for 11-18 year olds. A typical Saturday project is from 9:00am to noon or from 10:00am to 1:00pm, but we can adjust those hours depending on the project. For projects lasting more than three hours, we ask that a snack and beverage be provided for our Youth Volunteers and Team Leaders.
To apply for a project, your organization must complete and submit a Project Request Form. Project Request Forms must be submitted at least six weeks prior to your requested project date. If you have questions, concerns or need help with planning your project, you can always contact the Team Leader office to discuss your ideas. We prefer to meet with all agencies before the project is scheduled if we have not worked with you in the last year.
During the school year, we have ongoing community service opportunities during after school hours. These projects are designed for Youth Volunteers who want to make a more meaningful, long-term connection with one the selected agency. If you would like to be considered for an after school project site, please contact us.
Week Day Project
We like to offer as many service opportunities to our youth as possible. Projects during the week are a great way to recruit youth volunteers. These must still be after school hours* but can be any day of the week. We encourage monthly projects as well. These are set up the in the same format as the Saturday project with an icebreaker and a service learning lesson. *Note: Kansas City, Kansas District schools have half days on Wednesdays.
Special Event Project
During the school year, we will participate in global volunteer projects that connect our Kansas City community with others volunteering. Special Event Project include Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Global Youth Service Day and school break projects.
Please note that we do not accept projects that are purely clerical, fundraising, or trivial in nature.
There will be a Team Leader at every project that will strive to incorporate service-learning wherever possible. So if you have ideas on what educational aspects your project affords, please include those with your project submission.
