Team Leaders & Staff

Aloha, my name is Miranda Spini. I was born and raised in Kansas City, where I attended Bishop Miege High School. After that I moved to the beautiful city of Lawrence, KS to attend the University of Kansas. At KU, I graduated with majors in Applied Behavior Science (with an emphasis in Community Leadership and Development) and Psychology. I was involved with the Center of Community Outreach as a Co-Coordinator. I love to run and compete in triathlons. During the winter months I serve as the Head Coach for girls swimming at a local high school. My goal this year is to win first place in a dance contest. So, if you have any special dance skills to offer me that would be great!

Hello, I’m Ben! I am originally from KCK and currently live in Lawrence, Kansas. I live there now because by the time I graduated, the city had really grown on me, though it’s actually a fairly small town. I enjoy playing tennis, riding my bike next to rivers and cars, and playing video games. I try to watch the Simpson’s every day and I am quite frugal, but I’m not sure if there’s a correlation between those two things. My mom says I’m really sweet and I tend to believe her. I have a dog that will let you pet him to the max which is good because his name is Max. I have 2 brothers that live together in Kansas City, which is where most of my family still lives. I think I will move back there at some point so that I can be closer to the people I care about. Oh and I love whistling.

Hi, my name is Anna Hinz and I was born and raised in Bellingham, Washington. I went to college at Gonzaga University where I majored in Political Science and attempting to follow college basketball. I moved to Kansas City to be one of your Team Leaders. I enjoy really bad music and television, road trips, hiking, yoga, and getting lost in the Kansas City metro area. I love to exercise, but I'm not actually in particularly good shape. Like most people, I like to spend time with my friends and family, but the latter is a little more challenging now that they are all six states away. I'm also a morning person, which is pretty unfortunate for those around me. Other than that, I'm really looking forward to working with all the Youth Volunteers this year!

J.J. Burns is a pretty great guy. He graduated from DePauw University in May of 2006 with a degree in Comparative Religious Studies (career prospects abound!), and he married his best friend Andrea soon after. He’s the oldest of six children and he cannot go long periods of time without seeing his siblings. He is currently in his second term of service with YVCKC, but he’ll be leaving Kansas City in August for law school (all of his applications have been sent in and are pending). He doesn’t really know what he wants to do with his life yet, but he is very good at school and has decided that he should spend as much time as possible there. He likes books by Richard Dawkins, Electric Light Orchestra, and Bagel Bites, among other things.

And here's Jenn & Paul. You know them: they are the staff of YVCKC.
They are both lovely people.
